The traditional method for marriage compatibility is BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny) chart synastry, and Six Harmonies is just one reference point among many — not a deciding factor.
A BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny) chart has four pillars — year, month, day, and hour — each containing a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly Branch, eight characters in total. A proper compatibility reading examines the generating and controlling relationships between the Heavenly Stems of both charts, the favorable and unfavorable interactions relative to each person's Day Master (the Heavenly Stem of the day pillar, representing the individual), how the Luck Pillars and Annual Fortune interact with the marriage palace, and the inherent strength of marriage indicators in each person's chart. Declaring someone a "perfect match" based solely on a year-branch Six Harmonies combination is like using a coarse sieve and calling it precision work.
A concrete example: suppose someone's day branch is under heavy stress in their chart and the marriage palace is already unstable. Even if the other person's year branch forms a Six Harmonies pair with theirs, that single combination will struggle to hold the relationship together. Traditional fate-reading texts that deal with marriage compatibility have always looked at the full chart; none of the serious classical sources ever claimed that checking the zodiac sign alone was sufficient.
Whether two people can build a life together, BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny) synastry is only one part of the picture. Personality, habits, finances, and family background all sit outside the chart and all tangibly shape the quality of a marriage. A Six Harmonies pairing is a starting point, not a verdict.
